Project Overview
Mashable approached MaxCDN in 2009 wanting to switch CDNs, looking for more features and flexibility. MaxCDN was able to successfully address all feature and flexibility requests and significantly improve Mashable's user experience.
Our readership (ie. traffic) has more than tripled this year and we
needed a way to maintain a good user experience. MaxCDN makes that possible.
I don't know what we'd do without them and their support team.

Challenge
After reviewing Mashable's original hosting, MaxCDN identified a number of vital concerns that needed to be addressed:
- Needed to be able to easily compress static CSS and Javascript
- Provide an Origin Pull account, so no existing infrastructure needed to be updated
- Allow for multiple CNAMEs to match existing infrastructure
- Integrate directly into the W3-Total-Cache module to put Wordpress on the CDN.
- Be able to suggest features and have them implemented
Solution
Mashable implemented a series of solutions from the MaxCDN self service console. These solutions included:
- Turning on compression for all static files to decrease page load times
- Low latency delivery of small files
- Ensuring a consistent experience to visitors, all over the world
Results
Among the initial achievements within months of launching the new Mashable were:
- Very fast implementation
- Nearly 30% reduction in bandwidth with compression
